Is your conservatory too hot in summer, too cold in winter, or simply not as comfortable as it used to be? A replacement roof can transform an ageing conservatory inside and out, giving you a more practical, comfortable space you can enjoy all year.
We can remove ageing glass or polycarbonate roofing and install a modern tiled roof system while retaining the existing structure where suitable. This improves insulation, energy efficiency, comfort and the overall appearance of the conservatory without the cost and disruption of a complete replacement.
Before recommending a roof replacement, we’ll assess the condition of your existing conservatory to make sure the structure is suitable for the upgrade.
Once your order is confirmed and the deposit has been paid, we’ll manage the replacement process from survey through to final Building Control sign-off.
Our surveyor will visit your home to take the final measurements for the new roof, as well as any windows or doors being replaced. These measurements are then used for manufacture.
Once the survey is complete, we’ll submit the required information to Building Control and begin the Building Regulations process for the new solid tiled roof.
We’ll agree an installation date that suits you. A typical roof replacement takes around five days, with the existing roof removed and the new system installed by a dedicated CR Windows fitting team. We do not use external contractors for the main installation.
If you have chosen integrated lighting, we’ll arrange the first-fix electrical work during installation. Once the roof is complete, the internal ceiling is plastered before the electrician returns to complete the final electrical work.
Building Control will carry out a final inspection, with a CR Windows representative on site where required. Once approved, you’ll receive the relevant completion certificate confirming that the work complies with the applicable Building Regulations.
Before replacing your conservatory roof, it’s important to make sure the existing structure is suitable for the upgrade. Modern tiled roof systems are designed to be lightweight, but the conservatory still needs to be assessed before work begins.
Our team will look at key factors such as:
We will assess your conservatory before recommending a replacement roof, giving you confidence that the proposed system is suitable for your home.
An ageing conservatory roof can significantly affect how comfortable and usable the space feels. Do any of the following sound familiar? A replacement conservatory roof may be worth considering if:
If you're unsure whether a roof replacement is the right option, our team can assess your existing conservatory and recommend the most suitable approach for your home.
Replacing an old glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof can make a noticeable difference to how the space looks, feels and functions day to day.
A modern insulated roof helps reduce heat build-up in summer and heat loss in winter, making the conservatory space fit for all the seasons.
Improved insulation can help the room retain warmth more effectively, reducing the need to rely as heavily on additional heating during colder months.
Compared with highly glazed or polycarbonate roofs, a tiled replacement roof can reduce direct sunlight and glare, giving you a perfect balance of natural light and comfort.
Insulated tiled systems can significantly reduce the noise of heavy rain compared with older conservatory roofs, helping the room feel calmer and more comfortable.
A replacement roof can give an older conservatory a more substantial feel inside and out, helping it blend more naturally with the rest of your home.
Where the existing structure is in suitable condition, replacing the roof can breathe new life into the conservatory without the cost and disruption of starting again with a completely new build.
In many cases, replacing an existing conservatory roof with a tiled system will not require planning permission, particularly where the work does not significantly alter the size or appearance of the property.
However, you may need additional permissions if your home is listed, subject to planning restrictions, or if the proposed work goes beyond a straightforward roof replacement.
Building Regulations are a separate consideration. Depending on the scope of the work, the new roof and supporting structure may need to meet current structural and thermal requirements.
CR Windows can discuss the proposed upgrade with you and help identify any permissions or approvals that may be required before work begins.

One Bristol project shows just how much difference a replacement roof can make. The homeowners had an older conservatory with a polycarbonate roof that suffered from condensation, draughts, excessive noise during bad weather and uncomfortable temperature swings throughout the year.
After assessing the existing structure, we removed the old roof and installed a lightweight, fully insulated tiled system. The interior was then finished with a plastered ceiling and integrated downlights, helping the conservatory feel much more like a natural extension of the home.
The finished space now benefits from better year-round temperature control, improved thermal performance, reduced rain and wind noise, and a more modern appearance that complements the property. The entire project, including final Building Control inspection, was completed within just three weeks.
Yes, upgrading to a tiled roof conservatory is a popular way to turn your existing conservatory into a more permanent extension-like space. We offer tiled roof solutions that improve insulation, reduce glare, and create a room you can use all year round.
Many existing conservatories can support modern lightweight tiled roof systems, but this depends on the condition of the frames, foundations and supporting structure. A survey will identify whether the conservatory is suitable or if any additional reinforcement is required.
Timescales vary depending on the size and complexity of the conservatory, the roof system chosen and any additional work required. We will provide a clearer installation timeframe once your existing conservatory has been surveyed and the project specified.
A tiled roof will naturally reduce some of the overhead light provided by a fully glazed or polycarbonate roof, but that does not necessarily mean the conservatory will feel dark. Existing windows continue to provide natural light, while rooflights or glazed panels may also be incorporated into some roof designs to bring additional daylight into the room.
