Bow & Bay Windows

Product Description

Bow & Bay Windows

Let there be light! Illuminate your home with our Bow & Bay windows, the perfect choice for homeowners looking to bring more natural light into a space whilst complementing the aesthetic of your home.

Bow windows let in much more natural light than a singular flat window. With their semi-circular configuration, they effortlessly complement older properties. The angular design provides sleek lines that will add a modern touch to any style of property, enhancing the view of your home’s outdoors and brightening the interior at the same time.

A bay window is a window space projecting outward from the main walls of a building and forming a bay in a room. It typically consists of a central windowpane, called a fixed sash, flanked by two or more casement or box sash smaller windows. We manufacture and install this product with all of the appropriate supports, corner posts and welded cills. Bay windows are angular – typically set at 90, 135, or 150-degree angles, giving multiple angles for light to enter your home.

Bay and bow windows open your room up to the outdoors, creating a feeling of space and light. We can enhance this effect by installing slim-framed windows that maximise your glazing area and flood your home with natural light. This product comes with a 10 year guarantee.

Bow & Bay Windows

What’s The Difference Between Bow and Bay Windows?

Bay windows are a classic architectural feature that adds charm and functionality to any home. Characterised by their distinctive outward projection from the main walls, bay windows consist of three or more panels that form a polygonal shape. Typically, the central window is larger and flanked by two smaller, angled windows, creating a dynamic and spacious effect, along with an accessible interior space.

As opposed to bay windows, the brickwork under a bow window is flat. Furthermore, converting a flat window into a bow window is a far more time-efficient process. At CR Windows, this could normally be completed in 1 day without the need for any structural work, planning permission, or building regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bay windows typically feature three panels set at angles, creating a more pronounced projection and angular look. Bow windows have four or more panels with a curved appearance, offering a softer, rounded shape and a wider panoramic view.

No, bow windows remain a timeless choice for homeowners seeking elegance and extra light. Their classic, curved design suits both modern and traditional homes, and CR Windows' bespoke options ensure they stay stylish and functional.

Yes, in many cases, a bow window can be replaced with a bay window, depending on the structural support and opening. CR Windows offers expert advice and bespoke installations to ensure the replacement enhances both appearance and performance.

Most bow window installations fall under permitted development and don’t require planning permission. However, if the change significantly alters your home’s appearance or is in a conservation area, we can guide you through any necessary approvals.

Planning permission is usually not required for bay windows if they’re replacing existing ones or fall within permitted development rights. If adding a new bay that extends the building footprint, CR Windows will ensure it meets all UK planning regulations.
